All throughout her academic career, Lopez attended Catholic schools. She graduated from an all-girls school at Preston High School, located in the Bronx. By the age of 19, she was paying to take singing and dancing lessons for herself. She attended Baruch College for one semester. She split her time between working in a legal office, dance lessons, and dance performances in Manhattan night clubs.
Lopez's resume is quite extensive. She is an actress, singer-songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, dancer, model, television producer, choreographer, and a Miami Dolphins part owner. She has had her hand in many aspects of the entertainment industry throughout her career.
She spent months auditioning for dance roles before she was selected as a dancer in multiple rap videos. She was even a back-up dancer for New Kids on the Block when they performed on the American Music Awards in 1991.
The first role as an actress for her was in a fox series, South Central. She also managed to earn a role in the comedy Jack (1996). Her big break came in 1997. She was cast in the title role in the film Selena. She received countless praise for her performance in the film, including a Golden Globe nomination. She then starred in two major films, Anaconda and U Turn. The latter was based on a book, Stray Dogs.
By 1998 she was in a role that would earn her critical acclaim. She appeared in the film Out of Sight opposite George Clooney. The role also made her the first Latina actress to earn over $1 million for the role. She has also appeared in The Wedding Planner (2001), Enough (2002), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Monster-in-Law (2005), and Bordertown (2007).
Perhaps even more notable than her acting career, is her one singing. J. Lo or Jennifer Lopez has reached the Billboard Hot 100 in the number one spot on more than one occasion. She has released several albums already, like On the Six, J to tha L-O!: The Remixes, and Love?.
Jennifer Lopez teamed up with Amnesty International in order to build a bi-lingual website to rasie awareness about Mexican femicide. After Hurricane Katrina, she made a sizable donation to the Children's Health Fund's Operation Assist. She also encouraged her fans to follow suit. She also supports ALAS, Amnesty International, Los Angeles Free Clinic, Love Our Children USA, March of Dimes, MusiCares, and more. She also advocates for human rights and vaccinations.
